Target Information
APEH (Acylpeptide hydrolase) catalyzes the hydrolysis of terminal acetylated amino acids from small acetylated peptides. The resulting acetyl amino acid is further processed to acetate and a free amino acid by aminoacylase.
APEH gene is located on chromosome 3 (3p21) near the aminoacylase gene; deletions in this region are associated with decreased aminoacylase activity.
APEH is a homotetrameric protein (~300 kDa) with each subunit consisting of 732 amino acids. It plays a key role in removing oxidatively damaged proteins in cells.
