Target Information
ZBED1 (also known as DREF) is the human homolog of the Drosophila DREF protein, a transcriptional regulatory factor involved in the expression of genes required for DNA replication and cell proliferation. RNA interference experiments targeting ZBED1 RNA have shown inhibition of S-phase entry and reduction of histone H1 mRNA in HeLa cells, indicating a role in human cell proliferation. ZBED1 binds promoter regions of at least 22 ribosomal protein genes, and its knockdown decreases their expression. Immunoprecipitation studies indicate that ZBED1 self-associates via a carboxyl-terminal hATC domain, essential for nuclear localization and DNA binding.
