Target Information
Islet or insulinoma amyloid polypeptide (Amylin) is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients with type II diabetes mellitus or insulinoma. Although its association with diabetes has long been recognized, a direct causative role remains under investigation. Studies indicate that Amylin, similar to beta-amyloid (Aβ) in Alzheimer’s disease, may induce apoptotic cell death in certain cultured cells, suggesting a potential role in type II diabetes development.
