Target Information
SLC27A1 is a protein-coding gene that mediates the ATP-dependent import of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) into cells by facilitating their translocation at the plasma membrane. It also possesses acyl-CoA ligase activity for long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids. SLC27A1 may act directly as a transporter or as part of a multimeric protein complex that aids in fatty acid uptake and accumulation. It plays a key role in regulating available LCFA substrates in tissues with high levels of beta-oxidation or triglyceride synthesis and may be involved in cholesterol metabolism regulation.
