Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Fe65 protein family and functions as an adaptor protein localized in the nucleus. It interacts with Alzheimer’s disease amyloid precursor protein, transcription factor CP2/LSF/LBP1, and the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein. APP acts as a cytosolic anchoring site that prevents nuclear translocation of this protein. It may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease by regulating transcription and blocking cell cycle progression through downregulation of thymidylate synthase expression. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene.
