Target Information

PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, UCH-L1, PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein distinct from neuron-specific enolase, with a molecular weight of 27 kDa. It belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12).
PGP9.5 exhibits ubiquitin hydrolase and ligase activities, hydrolyzing small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate monomers. It is expressed in neurons and nerve fibers throughout the central and peripheral nervous system, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, ova, and corpus luteum cells.
Overexpression is associated with non-small cell lung cancer, while decreased expression is linked to Huntington and Alzheimer diseases. PGP9.5 serves as a useful neuronal marker and is valuable in neurodegenerative disorder studies such as Parkinson disease.
