Target Information

ATP6V1F encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme mediating acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for processes such as:

  • Protein sorting
  • Zymogen activation
  • Receptor-mediated endocytosis
  • Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

V-ATPase consists of:

  • V1 domain (cytosolic): three A, three B, two G, plus C, D, E, F, and H subunits — contains ATP catalytic site
  • V0 domain (transmembrane): subunits a, c, c′, c″, and d

Additional isoforms of many V1 and V0 subunits are encoded by multiple genes or alternatively spliced transcripts.
ATP6V1F encodes the V1 domain F subunit protein.
