Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It plays a role in the biogenesis of polarized columnar-shaped epithelium by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating vesicle transport, and impeding MAP4 binding to tubulin. Septin 2 is essential for mitosis progression, forming a scaffold at the mitotic spindle midplane to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores and ensure chromosome congression. During anaphase, it contributes to chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. Septin 2 also plays roles in ciliogenesis and collective cell movement.
