Target Information

Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with cytoskeletal complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, and participates in signaling pathways such as Wnt/Wingless.
It is expressed in hair follicle cells and epithelial tissues. Aberrant beta-catenin activity is implicated in various cancers, including colorectal, ovarian, and breast tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, regulating genes like cyclin D and c-myc that drive cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
