Target Information
Delta-like ligand 4 (DLL4), also known as Delta-4, is a transmembrane ligand for the Notch1 receptor and is homologous to the Drosophila delta protein. DLL4 is expressed in vascular tissue and plays a key role in vascular development. It is induced by VEGF and acts as a negative feedback regulator to control angiogenic sprouting and promote formation of a differentiated vascular network. Strong expression has been observed in tumor vessels of clear-cell renal tumors and bladder cancer. Inhibition of DLL4 increases vascular proliferation but causes defective maturation, leading to reduced tumor growth without apparent toxicity.
