이 펩타이드의 작용은 gastrin-releasing peptide receptor(GRPR)를 통해 매개되며, 이 수용체는 당화된 7-막관통 G-단백질 결합 수용체로서 phospholipase C 신호전달 경로를 활성화합니다.
GRPR은 폐, 결장, 전립선 등 다양한 암에서 비정상적으로 발현되며, 자폐증과 다발성 골외골증을 가진 개인에서 GRPR 유전자 내 염색체 전위가 보고된 바 있습니다.
