Target Information
Apolipoproteins act as stabilizers of intact lipoprotein particles. At least nine distinct polymorphic forms of apolipoproteins are known. Quantitative measurements of HDL, LDL, and VLDL in human serum are used to estimate coronary heart disease risk. Immunological quantification of apolipoproteins (especially A-1 and B) is considered a more accurate indicator of heart disease risk than lipoprotein particle measurements. These apolipoproteins are derived from human plasma by density gradient ultracentrifugation and HPLC.
