Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylate several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein.
p70 S6 kinase is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, pathways involving cell motility (such as metastasis), immune response, and tissue repair.
It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, with the S6 ribosomal protein as its main physiological target, contributing to upregulated protein synthesis and cell proliferation.
Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase have been observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
