Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein belonging to the pentraxin family, characterized by a pentameric structure. Members of this family share significant sequence homology, likely due to gene duplication. The encoded protein binds to pathological amyloid cross-beta fold structures, suggesting a possible chaperone role. It may also regulate chromatin degradation and binds to apoptotic cells at an early stage, indicating involvement in apoptotic cell processing in vivo.
