Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits, each about 55 kDa. These heterodimers are the fundamental building blocks of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures present in almost all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, facilitate intracellular transport, and play key roles in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes exist and are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene is similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, with expression predominantly observed in morphologically differentiated neuronal cells.
