Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Factor VIII.
Target Information
The Factor VIII gene encodes a coagulation factor that participates in the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. Factor VIII acts as a cofactor for factor IXa, which, in the presence of Ca²⁺ and phospholipids, converts factor X to its activated form Xa.
This gene produces two alternatively spliced transcripts:
- Transcript variant 1: Encodes isoform a, a large glycoprotein circulating in plasma and associating noncovalently with von Willebrand factor.
- Transcript variant 2: Encodes isoform b, a smaller protein mainly consisting of the phospholipid-binding domain essential for coagulant activity.
Defects in this gene cause hemophilia A, a common recessive X-linked coagulation disorder.
