Target Information
STK23 (MSSK1), also known as SRPK3, is a muscle-specific member of the SRPK family. Protein kinases transfer a phosphate group from ATP to specific amino acids in substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. These kinases regulate cellular metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell movement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes more than 500 gene products and is divided into major groups based on catalytic domain sequences. The STE group, homologous to yeast Sterile 7, 11, and 20 kinases, includes kinases related to mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade families such as Ste7/MAP2K, Ste11/MAP3K, and Ste20/MAP4K. MAP kinase cascades are key components of signal transduction pathways, such as the yeast pheromone response pathway.
