MA1-2011 detects the neurofilament, medium chain (NF-M) in human and rat samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a ~160 kDa protein representing the neurofilament medium chain in HEK 293 cells, rat spinal cord, and human frontal cortex.
In immunofluorescence procedures, MA1-2011 recognizes the neurofilament medium chain in human neurons.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to a C-terminal fragment of rat neurofilament.

Target Information

Neurofilaments (NFs) are intermediate filaments expressed almost exclusively in neuronal cells, especially in large axons.
They are composed of three polypeptide chains—NF-M (medium), NF-H (high), and NF-L (light)—which share structural similarity but differ in terminal sequences.
NF-M tail-mediated interactions are critical for axonal size and cytoskeletal architecture.
NF-M phosphorylation and O-GlcNAcylation regulate its translocation and filament formation.
Antibodies to neurofilament subunits are useful neuronal markers due to their abundance and stability.
