Target Information
Integrins are important extracellular matrix (ECM) receptor proteins located on cell surfaces. They are heterodimers composed of alpha and beta transmembrane glycoprotein subunits. Approximately 22 different integrins (various alpha/beta combinations) exist in nature.
Integrins are highly expressed on cell surfaces but bind ligands with low affinity individually, requiring clustering for effective ECM binding. They interact with multiple ligands, including laminin.
Each integrin consists of a large N-terminal extracellular domain for ECM ligand binding and a small C-terminal cytoplasmic domain involved in cytoskeletal interactions and signaling.
