Product Specific Information
The OKT9 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD71, a 170–180 kDa type II transmembrane protein known as the transferrin receptor. CD71 exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. It is expressed by immature proliferating cells and at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes. Antigen or mitogen stimulation of T and B cells upregulates CD71 expression.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and tested by flow cytometry using stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended usage is 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (final volume 100 µL).
Cell number may vary between 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.
Fluorochrome Information:
Alexa Fluor 700 emits at 723 nm and can be excited with the red laser (633–647 nm). Most instruments require a 685 LP mirror and 710/20 band pass filter.

Target Information
Cellular iron uptake occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-bound transferrin receptor into endosomes. Acidification releases iron, and the apotransferrin-receptor complex recycles to the cell surface. The transferrin receptor is crucial for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is also used to detect erythropoietin (EPO) misuse and diagnose anemia related to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, irritable bowel syndrome, and HIV.
