Target Information
UGT8 (UDP-galactose-ceramide galactosyltransferase, 2-hydroxyacylsphingosine 1-beta-galactosyltransferase) is a 541 amino acid, single-pass membrane protein belonging to the UDP-glycosyltransferase family. It is primarily involved in sphingolipid metabolism and galactosylceramide biosynthesis. Elevated expression of UGT8 has been correlated with increased risk of lung metastasis in breast cancer patients, making it a potential prognostic marker. UGT8 is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in central and peripheral nervous systems, and is upregulated in breast cancers.
