Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located within the mitochondrial intermembrane space, playing a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Upon apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor to activate procaspase 9. Cytosolic cytochrome C subsequently activates caspase 3, a key effector in the apoptosis pathway.
