Target Information
FABP7 was initially isolated from a human fetal brain cDNA library, with low-level mRNA expression in adult brain and muscle tissues. The protein belongs to the fatty acid binding protein (FABP) family, small conserved cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs are involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. FABP7 acts downstream of the Pax6 transcription factor and is essential for maintaining neuroepithelial cells during early cortical development. It is frequently expressed in melanomas, and its down-regulation via RNAi can reduce cell proliferation and invasion, suggesting potential diagnostic and therapeutic relevance.
