Target Information
CD244 (also known as 2B4 or SLAMF4) is a cell surface receptor expressed on natural killer (NK) cells and some T cells, mediating non-MHC restricted killing. Interaction between NK cells and target cells via CD244 modulates NK-cell cytolytic activity. CD244 interacts with SLAMF2, activating both SLAMF4- and SLAMF2-expressing cells.
Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus exhibit reduced SLAMF4 expression on NK cells and monocytes, suggesting a role in autoimmune disease pathology. CD244 dysfunction is associated with rheumatoid arthritis and lymphoproliferative syndrome. Alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms of CD244 have been identified.
