Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, composed of small 40S and large 60S subunits containing 4 RNA species and ~80 distinct proteins. The encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal protein is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate of protein kinases in the ribosome, with phosphorylation at five C-terminal serine residues by various kinases. Phosphorylation occurs in response to growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation is associated with growth arrest. This protein may regulate cell growth and proliferation via selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes exist throughout the genome.
