Anti-carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 19, Anti-CEAL1
The gene CEACAM19 (carcinoembryonic antigen related cell adhesion molecule 19) encodes a member of the CEACAM subfamily of the CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) family, which mainly participate in tumor progression. The CEA gene family comprises of 29 genes/pseudogenes. The CEACAM19 gene is mapped to human chromosome 19q13.2 and is made up of eight exons interspaced with seven introns. The 903bp coding region of the gene produces a 300-amino-acid polypeptide that has a molar mass of 32.6kDa. The encoded protein contains two Immunoglobulin-like (Ig-like) transmembrane domains and a conserved motif of eukaryotic translation initiation factors. The mRNA is found to be mainly expressed in the prostate, uterus, fetal brain, mammary, adrenal gland, skeletal muscle, small intestine and kidney. It is found to be overexpressed in some ovarian cancers and breast cancer tissues. It may serve as a biomarker for breast cancer progression.
