Background

Actins are highly conserved proteins involved in various types of cell motility and are expressed in all eukaryotic cells. In vertebrates, three main actin isoform groups—alpha, beta, and gamma—have been identified. Alpha actins are found in muscle tissues and form the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins coexist in most cell types as cytoskeletal components and mediators of internal cell motility.
