Background
Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH or G3PDH) is an enzyme (~37 kDa) catalyzing the sixth step of glycolysis, facilitating glucose breakdown for energy and carbon molecules. Beyond its metabolic role, GAPDH is involved in transcription activation, apoptosis initiation, ER-Golgi vesicle transport, and axonal transport. In sperm, a testis-specific isoenzyme (GAPDHS) is expressed.
