Background
Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is an enzyme of approximately 37 kDa that catalyzes the sixth step of glycolysis, breaking down glucose for energy and carbon molecules. Beyond its metabolic role, GAPDH participates in transcription activation, apoptosis initiation, ER-to-Golgi vesicle transport, and axonal transport. In sperm, a testis-specific isoenzyme GAPDHS is expressed.
