Target Information

Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins that constitute a major component of basement membranes. They play key roles in biological processes such as cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis.
Laminin effects are mediated through receptors including integrins and non-integrin laminin-binding proteins.
This gene encodes a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor 1, also known as 67 kD laminin receptor, 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), and p40 ribosome-associated protein.
The laminin receptor 1 sequence is highly conserved, suggesting essential biological functions. Elevated expression has been observed in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells, correlating with invasive and metastatic potential.
Multiple pseudogene copies exist, likely derived from retropositional events. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
