Target Information
Rap1GAP specifically stimulates the GTP hydrolytic activity of the monomeric G protein Rap1. Interaction between G alpha z (a Gi family member) and Rap1GAP inhibits regulators of G protein signaling, affecting GTP hydrolysis and adenylyl cyclase inhibition. Rap1GAP is expressed in brain, kidney, and pancreas, acting as a signal integrator coordinating Gz and Rap1 signaling. A novel isoform, Rap1GAPII, binds specifically to G alpha z and translocates upon M2 Muscarinic receptor stimulation, leading to decreased GTP-bound Rap1 and activation of ERK/MAPK pathways.
