Target Information
Ribosomes are the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins.
The RPS23 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S12P family of ribosomal proteins. It is localized in the cytoplasm and shares significant amino acid similarity with the S. cerevisiae ribosomal protein S28. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
