Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody eBio5G3 recognizes CD171 (L1CAM), a neural cell adhesion molecule belonging to the Ig superfamily. CD171 contains six extracellular Ig domains and five fibronectin type III-like repeats. It mediates cell-cell interactions involved in neuronal myelination, neurite outgrowth, and regeneration.

CD171 is expressed on monocytes, mature monocytic-derived and follicular dendritic cells, a minor subset of lymphocytes, neuronal tissue, and certain tumor cell lines. Tumor expression of CD171 is associated with progression. The epitope recognized by eBio5G3 is located in the amino-terminal Ig-like domain.

Applications Reported:
Flow cytometry, Western blotting, and immunohistology staining of frozen tissue sections.

Applications Tested:
Validated by flow cytometric analysis of Panc-1 cells. Recommended usage ≤ 0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ per test; titration is advised for optimal performance.

Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

L1CAM/CD171 is an axonal glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin supergene family. Its ectodomain consists of multiple Ig-like and fibronectin type III domains, linked via a transmembrane sequence to a conserved cytoplasmic domain. This molecule is critical for nervous system development, including neuronal migration and differentiation.
Mutations in L1CAM cause X-linked neurological syndromes collectively known as CRASH (corpus callosum hypoplasia, retardation, aphasia, spastic paraplegia, and hydrocephalus). Neuron-specific alternative splicing is functionally significant.
