Target Information
CDK5 is a member of the Cyclin-Dependent Kinase family that is most abundant in the mammalian brain. The active form of CDK5, also known as neuronal cdc2-like kinase, is a heterodimer of CDK5 and a 25 kDa protein derived proteolytically from a 35 kDa brain and neuron-specific protein, essential for CDK5 kinase activity.
CDK5 plays a crucial role in neuronal migration during central nervous system development. It phosphorylates diverse substrates, regulating various cellular processes such as adhesion, motility, synaptic plasticity, and drug addiction.
