Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It functions as a stem cell marker and may regulate adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells. CD34 possibly mediates attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and serves as a scaffold for glycan attachment, facilitating interactions with lectins. The intracellular domain is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, indicating a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
