Target Information
Myc is a proto-oncogene encoding a nuclear phosphoprotein involved in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cellular transformation. The encoded protein forms a heterodimer with MAX, binding to the E-box DNA consensus sequence to regulate transcription of specific target genes. Gene amplification is frequently observed in human cancers. Translocations involving this gene are associated with Burkitt lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Translation can initiate from both a non-AUG (CUG) and an AUG start site, producing two isoforms with distinct N-termini.
