Target Information
The NMDA Receptor (NMDAR) plays an essential role in memory and neuronal development. It is implicated in several central nervous system disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. NMDAR is also a principal molecular target for alcohol in the CNS and is potentiated by protein phosphorylation. The NR1 protein can form NMDA-activated channels when expressed in Xenopus oocytes, though these currents are smaller than those observed in situ. More physiological channels are produced when the NR1 subunit combines with one or more NMDAR2 (NR2 A–D) subunits.
