Target Information
Glutamate is the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain. It acts on both ligand-gated receptor channels (NMDA, AMPA, and kainate receptors) and G-protein-coupled metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs).
Group I mGluRs (mGluR1a, mGluR5) stimulate phospholipase C, while Group II (mGluR2, mGluR3) and Group III receptors inhibit adenylyl cyclase.
mGluR2 plays a key role in modulating synaptic transmission and neuronal signaling.
