Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

This affinity purified antibody is directed against rat and mouse caspase-2. The antibody detects both long and short forms of the protein. It reacts with mouse and rat caspase-2, but not with human caspase-2. Cross-reactivity with other species has not been determined. Rat and mouse caspase-2 show 94% homology, with no significant homology to the human form.

Target Information

Caspase-2 gene encodes a cysteine-aspartic acid protease, part of the caspase family. Sequential activation of caspases plays a central role in the execution phase of apoptosis. Caspases exist as inactive proenzymes that undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to form active enzymes composed of large and small subunits. Proteolytic cleavage is induced by various apoptotic stimuli. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
