Target Information
The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with various proteins such as apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1. In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a transcriptional corepressor binding to sumoylated transcription factors, and its repression can be relieved by sequestration into promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies or nucleoli. It also associates with centromeres during G2 phase. In the cytoplasm, DAXX may regulate apoptosis. Its localization and function are modulated by post-translational modifications including sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination. Multiple transcript variants are produced by alternative splicing.
