Target Information
The Band 3 protein is the most abundant integral protein of human erythrocyte membranes and serves as the major anion transporter polypeptide. It is a 90–100 kDa protein whose microheterogeneity arises mainly from carbohydrate structural variations.
The C-terminal region spans the membrane multiple times and mediates anion transport, while the N-terminal region is located inside the red cell and interacts with cytoskeletal and cytoplasmic proteins such as ankyrin.
