Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, activated by cold temperatures below 25 °C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and modulation of intracellular pH. TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent calcium ions (Ca²⁺). Expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with elevated levels in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also expressed in certain nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely detected in corresponding normal tissues.
