Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, activated by cold temperature below 25 °C. It is also activated by icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and modulation of intracellular pH.
TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cation (Ca²⁺).
Expression is mostly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate levels in normal prostate tissue and elevated levels in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also expressed in some nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
