Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of cool sensations, activated by cold temperatures below 25°C, as well as by icilin, eucalyptol, and menthol.
It is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cation (Ca²⁺).
TRPM8 expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with elevated expression in prostate cancer.
Moderate TRPM8 mRNA levels are found in normal prostate tissue, and expression has also been observed in breast, colon, lung, and skin tumors, but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
