MST4는 세린/트레오닌 키나아제 계열인 Ste20-like kinase 패밀리에 속하며, 전립선암 발달 과정에서 과발현되는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. MST4 단백질은 아미노 말단의 키나아제 도메인과 카복시 말단의 조절 도메인을 포함하며, 후자는 호모다이머화를 매개합니다. 이 단백질은 골지체(Golgi apparatus)에 위치하며, GM130 단백질 결합을 통해 활성화됩니다. 또한 caspase-3에 의해 절단될 수 있으며, 세포사멸 경로에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다. 여러 가지 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
