DCAMKL2는 신호전달 및 세포 간 커뮤니케이션에 관여하는 세린/트레오닌 키나아제로, 미세소관 결합 단백질을 발현하는 랫트 단백질 키나아제의 인간 상동체입니다. 이 단백질은 미세소관 중합 활성과 단백질 키나아제 활성은 독립적으로 작용합니다. 마우스 연구에서 DCX 유전자와 함께 해마 조직 형성에 관여하며, 두 유전자의 결손은 심한 간질성 표현형 및 치명적인 결과를 초래합니다. 인간의 lissencephaly 환자에서도 유사한 현상이 보고되었습니다. 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이가 확인되었습니다.
