Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in this checkpoint can lead to genetic instability and malignant transformation. Human cells express two related checkpoint kinases derived from the BUB1 gene: hBUBR1 and hBUB1. Both monitor kinetochore-microtubule interactions during mitosis. hBUBR1 is essential for proper mitotic progression by preventing premature anaphase onset. BUBR1 has been detected in various human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1, which may accelerate breast cancer progression by disrupting mitotic checkpoint control.
