GABBR2는 G-protein coupled receptor 3 패밀리에 속하는 다중 통과 막 단백질로, GABA-B receptor 서브패밀리에 속합니다. GABA-B 수용체는 G protein-coupled second-messenger 시스템을 통해 신경 활동을 억제하며, 신경전달물질 방출, 이온 채널, 아데닐릴 사이클라아제의 활성을 조절합니다. 이 수용체 서브유닛은 GABA-B receptor subunit 1과 이합체를 형성해야 활성형 복합체로 작용하며, 단독으로는 기능하지 않습니다. 또한, 이 유전자의 대립유전자는 니코틴 의존성과 관련이 있는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
