Target Information
Aquaporin-8 (AQP8) is a water channel protein encoded by the AQP8 gene in humans. It belongs to the aquaporin family of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0).
AQP8 mRNA is predominantly expressed in the pancreas and colon, forming a water-specific, mercury-sensitive channel. It is not permeable to glycerol or urea and is selectively expressed in limited tissues.
