Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator that plays an essential role in erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation. It acts as a cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3). These complexes can activate or repress transcription depending on cell and promoter context. The heterodimer is essential for activation of genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, alpha- and beta-globin, while repressing KLF1 expression. ZFPM1 may also regulate genes in gonads and contribute to cardiac development in conjunction with ZFPM2/FOG2.
